    Notes:

There is an alternate theory of this Jonathan's parents, siblings and ancestry. This theory is suggested by Sandy Baker, who lives in Washington state. She is a descendant of Jonathan, through his son George. Sandy and her mother Bessie were originally from Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where she apparently had other connections including the Reeves and the Mangus families. She says of this::

"About Jonathan, he was adopted by a wealthy family by the name of Sayer in Scotland. They wanted him to become a priest, which he disagreed with the extra book in the bible that the Catholics have. When he refused to become a priest they disowned him. So he changed his name back to Jamison and immigrated to the state. Now I do not know if he changes his name back to Jamison before or after he got to the states. My mother Bessie said that Jonathan was a twin so there should be a brother also."

Martin Jamison, a direct descendant of Jonathan, suggests this other family might be that of Robert and Mary (Wotherspoon) Jamieson, of Glasgow, Scotland. A workup of this other family can be found here,

    Birth:
Jonathan's birth dates are all over the place depending on the document. The emigration ship's passage may be the most contemporaneous. It suggests 1842. The IGI says 10 May 1841 but does not identify its source.

    Name:
Name usually found spelled in Pennsylvania and Military records as Jamison

    Buried:
The Dixmont Cemetery is on the grounds of the old Dixmont Mental Hospital & Institution. Presumably this Jonathan had been an inmate there.

Jonathan married Mary Ann Demmitt on 12 Aug 1870 in Upper Turkeyfoot, Somerset Co., PA. Mary (daughter of Enoch Demmitt and Nancy C. (Unknown)) was born about 1836 in MD; died on 8 Mar 1906 in PA; was buried in Ursina Cemetery - Ursina, Somerset Co., PA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    • Census: 1870, Lower Turkeyfoot, Somerset Co., PA
    • Census: 1880, Harnedsville, Somerset Co., PA

    Notes:

There seems to be no trace of William or Jane Jameson, apart from the record of their 1851 arrival in Philadelphia. The only records of this family in America, appear to be in the 1860 Federal Census where returns exist for teenage sons, Jonathan, William and Alexander, all living north of Pittsburgh, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, each in separate households with other families. This suggests the parents are no longer around, possibly having died.
