- Jonathan arrived in America, at Philadelphia, in 1851 aboard the ship "Philadelphia," with his parents and two brothers. No definitive records can be found about him (or any of the others) that can be said to prove, without any doubt, that this record is him. However this Jonathan Jamison, a William Jamison and an Alexander Jamison, all of the appropriate ages and background, can be found in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, in the 1960 census, each living in separate households. The parents, William and Jane Jameson however, cannot be found here, or anywhere for that matter, suggesting this family had, for some unknown reason, broken apart. Furthermore, all the information presented here, however accurate onto itself, is therefore circumstantial as to its possible connection to the family as it is known.
- There is an alternate theory of this Jonathan's parents, siblings and ancestry. This theory is suggested by Sandy Baker, who lives in Washington state. She is a descendant of Jonathan, through his son George. Sandy and her mother Bessie were originally from Somerset County, Pennsylvania, where she apparently had other connections including the Reeves and the Mangus families. She says of this::
"About Jonathan, he was adopted by a wealthy family by the name of Sayer in Scotland. They wanted him to become a priest, which he disagreed with the extra book in the bible that the Catholics have. When he refused to become a priest they disowned him. So he changed his name back to Jamison and immigrated to the state. Now I do not know if he changes his name back to Jamison before or after he got to the states. My mother Bessie said that Jonathan was a twin so there should be a brother also."
Martin Jamison, a direct descendant of Jonathan, suggests this other family might be that of Robert and Mary (Wotherspoon) Jamieson, of Glasgow, Scotland. A workup of this other family can be found here,
